ARTS FOR LIFE is committed to giving back to the community in which it thrives and interacts. So many people give of themselves, so unselfishly, to foster cooperation, good will, friendship, and fellowship within community theater associations.
In 1994, work through the St. Louis Hills Arts Council enabled ARTS FOR LIFE in its infancy to raise tax-deductible funds in order to produce an original musical revue entitled Love Songs…Between Friends, Among Friends, and For Friends that premiered at the Sheldon Concert Hall. From there ARTS FOR LIFE has gone on to produce several original musicals & concerts benefiting local charities:
- "A Get Well Celebration" at the Whittemore House on the campus of Washington University for Renal Cell Carcinoma research.
- A Jeweltones concert for chondrosarcoma research at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, the disease that affected LeeAnn Smith Cho.
- In November of 2001, Arts for life held the benefit "Faith, Hope, Love....Freedom!" to assist the American Red Cross with 9-11 recovery efforts.
- In May of 2005, Arts for Life sponsored "A Musical Tribute for Bob Mulch," honoring a great individual who had dedicated countless hours to the community through musical theatre, choirs, and theatre arts. Bob eventually succumbed to throat cancer, and this wonderful event celebrated the life of our friend who gave so much to others, and at the same time raised valuable funds for the American Cancer Society.
- "Love Lift us Up", an original musical revue held to raise those affected by the spring tornadoes of 2011, was organized by Arts for Life in the fall of 2011.
- In 2017, AFL participated in the "CommUNITY Arts Festival" benefiting past BPA nominee and AFL Scholarship winner, Rain Stippec, a victim/survivor of gun violence.
- Arts for life also works regularly with Food Outreach, assisting the organization with food packing, distribution, and collection for those with HIV and cancer.
It is our continuing mission to service those in need, to honor those that give unselfishly, to praise stage performance, and to remember those no longer with us that exemplified these qualities. We welcome your time and energy in assisting us!
